The Argon Gas Coagulator (Argon Beam) is used for coagulation of heavily bleeding tissue (liver, spleen, etc.), as well as the GI tract (because of minimal thermal spread). It is commonly used in laparoscopic & endoscopic procedures. The benefits of using the Argon Beam over a regular cautery is:
- No contact with tissue be cauterized
- Flexible eshcar (won’t crack & start bleeding again)
- Decreased char
- Only few mm of thermal spread (2-3mm)
- Decreased smoke while coagulating
The hand piece sprays out a precise beam of Argon Gas, that when electrical current is added, the electrical current is carried to the target tissue & coagulates the bleeding.
